Idk I thought of this theory a few episodes in so it doesn’t line up perfectly but it lines up better with the earlier episodes. Its more of an AU than it is a theory at times but here it is...
What if Popee is trapped in hell? Obviously he is a pretty bad guy, very violent and not afraid of bloodshed, knows how to use a gun etc. What if in life Popee was named something else and was a genuinely bad guy (maybe in a gang?). When he died he was assigned to a specific demon (Kedamono) and sent to his own personal hell. His name was changed to something ridiculing, his outfit was embarrassing and his memory of his life was completely gone. Kedamono's name literally translates to beast, he is capable of magic of sorts and his mother is "god" (or perhaps the devil in our case?). Kedamono is bad at his demon job (he is so compassionate) so to toughen him up he was assigned to Popee but Popee is just so bad that he manages to torture Kedamono instead.
TL;DR Kedamono is a demon and Popee is trapped in his own personal circus hell.
Idk...thoughts?

I like it! Where does Papi come in? I'd like to hear your thoughts on his role in this headcanon.

Papi could be another demon sent to check if Kedamono is doing his job. Papi and his elephant are the only ones who can actually frustrate Popee and kind of "torture" him to a degree. (He is a better demon than Kedamono, however Kedamono gets some help from his mom sometimes. I.E. the episode "Time" and "Vs. God" (I’m also assuming that the big face in the desert is a part of Kedamono's mom. Mainly because its a big mask and Kedamono has masks and "his face looks like his mothers" idk, she can see through the masks that are in each hell so she (the devil) can watch over each one and see what’s happening)) Papi can also do magic of sorts and is the most talented of the three.
If we get into the whole "Papi is Popee's dad" thing, then either Papi is kind of a father figure because he is more knowledgeable. Or if we get really deep into things maybe Papi is his father and the reason that Popee was such a rebel in life was because his dad was a demon.

Fascinating...I like it. Not so much with Papi's inclusion- but I understand that it's hard to make this entirely solid. This would make for a fun AU in story format.
